New Delhi, Yograj Sharma: Nursing personnel across four major Central Government hospitals have commenced a daily two-hour work protest from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, beginning May 25, 2026, expressing strong opposition to the proposed outsourcing of nursing services.
The protest has been organized under the banner of the All India
Government Nurses Federation (AIGNF), which stated that the move is aimed
at safeguarding the interests, job security, and professional rights of nursing
professionals working in government healthcare institutions.
According to federation representatives, the ongoing agitation follows
several months of peaceful demonstrations and repeated appeals to the
authorities. Previous actions included black badge campaigns, sit-in protests,
submission of memorandums, and notices regarding mass casual leave and possible
indefinite strike action.
AIGNF leaders claim that during discussions held with government officials
on March 10, 2026, assurances were provided that nursing services would not be
outsourced. However, the federation alleges that developments indicating a move
toward outsourcing have continued, leading to dissatisfaction among nursing
staff.
Despite the protest, nursing personnel have reportedly continued to ensure
uninterrupted patient care and essential healthcare services. The federation
emphasized that patient welfare remains its highest priority while pursuing its
demands through democratic means.
The organization has cautioned that if the concerns of the nursing
community are not addressed, the protest could intensify in the coming weeks,
potentially resulting in mass casual leave and an indefinite strike.
AIGNF has urged the Government of India to engage in constructive dialogue
with nursing representatives and take immediate steps to resolve the issue,
emphasizing the crucial role nurses play in maintaining the country's public
healthcare system.
