Receiver of Stolen Mobile Phones Arrested; 22 Stolen Mobiles Recovered by Delhi Metro Police

In a major breakthrough against mobile phone theft in the Delhi Metro network, a joint team of the Special Staff, Metro and Police Station Kashmiri Gate Metro has apprehended a receiver of stolen mobile phones and recovered 22 stolen mobile handsets, leading to the successful detection of multiple Metro theft cases.

The accused has been identified as Sameer, son of Vakil, a resident of B-263, Gali No. 5, Nehru Nagar, Karawal Nagar, Delhi, with his native village at Khanpur, District Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh.

According to the police, the accused was arrested during a raid conducted near Khajuri Chowk, Delhi, on July 10, 2026, following sustained field enquiries, intelligence inputs, and continuous surveillance by the joint police team.

During the search, police recovered 22 stolen mobile phones from his possession. During interrogation, the accused confessed that he had been purchasing stolen mobile phones from habitual thieves operating inside Metro trains and selling them through illegal channels for financial gain.

His disclosure led to the successful detection of the following Metro theft cases:

  • FIR No. 80043354/2026, dated 26.05.2026, under Section 303(2) BNS, Police Station Kashmiri Gate Metro.

  • FIR No. 80029643/2026, dated 19.03.2026, under Section 303(2) BNS, Police Station INA Metro.

  • FIR No. 80001272/2026, dated 05.01.2026, under Section 303(2) BNS, Police Station Shastri Park Metro.

Modus Operandi

Investigations revealed that the accused regularly received stolen mobile phones from thieves targeting Metro commuters. He subsequently disposed of the stolen devices through illegal networks to earn money while concealing the identity of the original offenders and the source of the stolen property.

Further Investigation

Police are continuing their investigation to identify and arrest the thieves supplying stolen mobile phones to the accused, trace additional recoveries, and ascertain his involvement in other similar offences.

Major Success

The operation has resulted in the recovery of a substantial number of stolen mobile phones, the detection of multiple Metro theft cases, and the disruption of a network involved in the disposal of stolen property. The action is expected to strengthen ongoing efforts to curb mobile phone theft in the Delhi Metro system and enhance the safety and security of Metro commuters.
